Week #7

The model will definitely be done on time for the presentations, but I'm not sure whether we will be able to do the creative part (the part where i make an add on to the existing house). I wanted to make the As-Build Model more presentable rather than just do it fast and have it looks bad. MY project presentation will go over what everything I've learned. I will be going step by step with the process of making the model, i dont have any early picture, but i plan to start taking some pictures now. Today we didn't get that much done, it was a rather slow day. By next week the model will be near completion though.

Week #6

We've finally begun to work on the 1/4 scale model of my house. The work on the model is much faster than the drawing as I've already cut out both the side walls of my house, and the entire upper floor plan. As of now floor slants to the left, but we'll fix that. My house is built on a slope so one side wall is shorter than the other. To counteract this we need to build a base and stack the cardboard for the house to sit on.

Week #5

Hours: 35
So today I went to four cabinet makers with Michael and two of his clients. Two of the cabinet makers were pre-fabricated and the other two were full custom shops. The first one we stopped was rather unmemorable as i can't seem to think of anything we did there. The second one was a guy from Germany who was originally majoring in psychology and then suddenly decided to make cabinetry. Lol. Michael's clients are two artists and both seemed to rather like him. The third place we went to was Cabinets and Beyond which was owned by some women who were originally from the Ukraine. They carried cabinets from standard to custom (Still pre-fab. Custom just means they would do whatever staining, coloring, hinging, etc you wanted.) I learned that cabinet interiors are made of either plywood or.....uh...i forgot the name. I also found out the Michaels clients both love my dad's restaurant, Chenery Park. That was pretty kool. And the last place we went to was a full custom shop that was owned by some chinese people. They were...eccentric, but seemed competent in their cabinet making skills.

Week #3

Hours: 24
Sorry about the blogs not going in order, but i need to post this one. So on the third day i did imy intership i went to Michael's office and did more drawing. These consisted of the preliminary drawings for the the garage, and the side stair well of my house. I was asked to get a lot of measurements for those two parts of the building so we could do the real drawings in the fourth week (which we did).

Week #4

Hours: 32
THis week we finalized the floorplan of my house. We also started working on the plan for the garage and the other room that is attached to it. We are no where close to meeting our goal of being completed with the model of my house. We had planned on finishing it by next week but are still working on the drawings. I'm pretty sure that next week all the drawings will be done.

Week #2

Hours: 10-5. My Working place Learning experience has been pretty nice so far. My mentors office is in an apartment building that he owns. Two tenants live in the units below and his office is in the upper floor. He is very casual since he works out a building he owns. Generally he works by himself, but he has worked with students before. Yesterday we went to my house and got measurements. This took almost all day but we were able to make a very good plan after this. This week, in preparation for next week, i have to take more measurements of my house, and then make a floor plan for the lower level of my house(my garage). Yup

Week #1

Hours: 10-5. This week i went my WLe for the firt itme and i found it to be much more interesting than i thought it would be. I didn't think architecture could hold my interest, but because i ended up drawing (sick) the entire day i enjoyed it. We started the plans to build a model of my house. I drew some estimates on where i thought everything was.
